Our Whirlwind Week

What a week! We were on the go for much of it as Andrew and I helped lead music at our church's Vacation Bible School. The boys were in their age group classes and Hannah spent the evenings in the workers' nursery being snuggled by some top-notch volunteers.  We all had a really fun week but definitely need to recover.  :-)

See the little blond boy right in front wearing red?  That's my friend Amber's little boy Ty.  We met Amber's family this winter and they've been attending Bogey Hills since the spring.  Joey and Ty have buddied up and Joey calls him his best buddy.  I'm so happy for Joey - all of his friends are really Ben's friends, or the kids who are closer to Joey's age are mostly girls.  I'm so happy he finally has a friend to call his own!

On Tuesday night, Ben and I had to leave VBS for a little while to attend his final t-ball class of the summer.  We have really loved the way the City of St. Charles Parks and Rec does t-ball.  We plan to continue next year, and Joey should be able to participate in his own class too!

We had more birdy biology this year as we have watched our barn swallow friends come back for May and June.  They built a nest last year in our carport but we never saw any babies.  MommaBird and DaddyBird, mates for life, came back this year to reuse their nest.  They hatched three babies, but two met their fate thanks to gravity and the cement below their nest.  We found the one remaining baby sitting out on our carport the other night right by the house.  Somehow it got out of the nest but couldn't fly yet.  The next morning when I tried going outside, I was dive bombed by the parents!  They were always present to feed and protect Baby.  Later that night before leaving for VBS, the Birdy Family was in the front yard, and Mom and Dad were flying and flapping all around Baby as if to teach it how to fly.  It was SO cute... almost like a driving lesson.  :-)  Baby still didn't figure it out, so they were back at it again the next day.  Baby must have figured it out because the family is long gone now, until next May we expect!  See Baby in the grass and Mom and Dad on the left flying around??

Friday morning, the boys and I went with friends to a nearby farm to pick berries!  We've been apple picking before but never for berries.  It was very fun and the kids had a great time picking fruit and running around.

And finally, today, we celebrated Hannah's little life and we participated with other families at our church in a child dedication.  It's an opportunity we have as parents to promise to raise Hannah according to God's Word.  And, our church family promises to stand alongside us for support and prayer.  There's nothing magical about the moment... it's simply a promise before God and His people.  We look forward to raising her to know Jesus.  You'll notice some of our VBS decorations behind us.  :-)

Here's to a slightly less busy week!

(Who am I kidding?  It'll still be nuts!  Ha!)
